Celina’s Shocking Romance & The Rookie Season 7 Episode 10’s Dark Twist Unpacked By Star Lisseth Chavez

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Rookie season 7, episode 10.
The Rookie season 7, episode 10 aired Tuesday, March 18 on ABC and featured the return of “Daddy Cop” singer, Rodge. “Chaos Agent” marks Zander Hawley’s third onscreen appearance, providing much-needed background on the character. His heavy involvement in the episode comes as a pleasant surprise, but the biggest shocker transpires in the opening moments when it’s revealed that he and Celina are dating.
Nolan is furious when he learns about their relationship, even expressing his disapproval to Tim and Lucy. However, he comes around by the episode’s end, admitting that he could stand to lighten up. From Lucy’s distrust of Seth, the station’s lockdown, and a raccoon wreaking havoc, “Chaos Agent” lives up to its name, even ending with several chilling twists.

The Rookie Creator Pitched A Celina-Rodge Romance To Chavez Ahead Of Season 7
“He was like, ‘How funny would it be if you’re dating John Nolan’s garage band nemesis, and he doesn’t know who he is until finally it clicks?'”
ScreenRant: How surprised were you when you found out who Celina’s new love interest was?
Lisseth Chavez: Alexi Hawley, who is the creator of the show, pitched the idea to me before we started shooting the season. He was like, “How funny would it be if you’re dating John Nolan’s garage band nemesis, and he doesn’t know who he is until finally it clicks?” I’m like, “That would be hilarious.”
So I’m happy that it all happened. It tells a good story. He was amazing to work with. He’s an extremely talented musician, and we worked so hard via Zoom going over the material so he would feel confident. It was an overall great experience.
I’m assuming the song 9-1-1 was about how Rodge asked out Celina.
Lisseth Chavez: Yes, yes. That’s how she fell for him.
How exactly do you picture that interaction went down?
Lisseth Chavez: I just imagined him singing to me, and I’m like, “Oh my God.” That’s exactly what I pictured. I just pictured him sort of serenading me, and I’m just like, “What? I’m not falling for you.” And then he just sort of sweeps me off my feet and I’m just like, “Of all people.” [Laughs]
Celina seemed like a fan from the beginning. She was always saying the song was catchy.
Lisseth Chavez: Yeah. She was jamming to his songs and dancing, and honestly, it was such a catchy song. Even for this season that we were shooting, it never really left. It was a very catchy song, and 9-1-1 hopefully does the same.
Fans Will See More Of Rodge In The Rookie Season 7
“I feel like they mesh well together, and they compliment each other.”
I like that it was important for Celina to properly introduce Rodge to Nolan and Bailey.
Lisseth Chavez: In a perfect world, I feel like Celina was expecting that we could all just look back and laugh about it and just be one big family. It was just funny when it hit Nolan and who he was when he mentioned it. That was a funny moment. I think it’s going to take some time, but I feel like we’re on the right track now.
Celina is still with Rodge at the end of the episode. Do you feel like he’s a good match for her long-term?
Lisseth Chavez: I think so. I think they’re so cute together. I feel like they sort of match each other’s energy. He’s like this cute, quirky, nerdy guy who’s all about the music, and he knows everything about the technology behind the music. I feel like they mesh well together, and they compliment each other. We will see more of Rodge.
He said he wrote another song for Nolan, so I’m very interested if we will get to hear it.
Lisseth Chavez: Oh my God. We’ll see. I think Celina would have to hear it first before she introduces it to Nolan.
I’m not sure if it’s just me, but a few episodes ago, I thought we were seeing some sparks between Celina and Miles. It there possibly something there?
Lisseth Chavez: That’s so funny. I feel like, hopefully, they will become good friends in the police force. Celina is a taken woman. [Laughs] But it’s funny you say that. I think I read that a little bit too. I think I read some threads or something talking about that. I think it was when we were heading towards the elevator or something, and I think his girlfriend comes. But I think it is platonic.
That was actually the exact moment I was thinking of.
Lisseth Chavez: No, I did read that too. I was like, “Really? Did it really read that way?” It’s a friendship, and I hope they remain friends. Hopefully you fall in love with [Rodge] the more you get to see him and see him and Celina together. But I think they’re great.
“I want to believe that they still play Dungeons & Dragons together.”
This entire episode was a wild ride. We find out that the attackers in Angela’s case were the young girls. I’m curious what your reaction was when you read that in the script because it’s pretty dark.
Lisseth Chavez: Oh my God. When I read it too, I was like, “Holy moly. What is happening?” I feel like it did get pretty dark. Just even knowing about the three friends turning on their one friend. It is bad in itself already. It was uncomfortable.
The Rookie has such incredible duality because you had that dark storyline, you had the Rodge storyline, and then you also captured a raccoon. I’m assuming you had a live animal on set?
Lisseth Chavez: Oh, yeah. We had like three raccoons on set and one stuffed raccoon. I took pictures with the stuffed raccoon. It was a lot going on for this episode. The Rookie shows a little bit of everything. In one episode there’s the action, the humor, the drama. There’s a little bit of everything.
How often do you think Celina keeps in contact with Aaron? They were close before they had that blip last season.
Lisseth Chavez: I know. I know. I want to believe that they still play Dungeons & Dragons together. So in my imaginary world, they’re still really good friends. They have to play Dungeons & Dragons together. That’s their thing. So in this world, yes.
Celina is living with Lucy, so how do you feel their relationship has evolved over the seasons?
Lisseth Chavez: We’ll see a little bit more of what it’s like and how our friendship has grown. It’s fun shooting with Melissa. I feel like we’ve also developed a friendship outside of work, so the friendship bleeds into us being roommates and how close we’ve gotten. It’s great. I love her, and she’s awesome.
Since you’ve already finished filming the season, is there an upcoming episode that you’re particularly excited for fans to see?
Lisseth Chavez: There is, but it’s a little bit on the darker side. I am excited. I’m excited to see how everything got put together. I don’t know what I can say. I don’t even remember the episode number. But I am excited for a specific episode. It is a little bit more on the darker side.
