Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Rookie season 7, episode 10!The Rookie star Lisseth Chavez has addressed Celina and Miles’ romance speculation after it seemed like sparks were flying between the pair. The Rookie season 7 introduced multiple new rookies to the LAPD, including Miles Pen (Deric Augustine), a former rookie from Texas who lives in his car. He’s struck up a friendship with Celina (Chavez) in recent episodes, even having some moments where the pair have seemed closer to each other than usual. However, the more established character is already in a relationship with band singer Rodge (Zander Hawley).
Speaking with ScreenRant, Chavez explained Celina and Miles’ relationship in The Rookie, saying that they’re just friends given her character’s committed relationship. However, she does admit she felt similarly about their interactions, especially when they’re walking toward an elevator together in an earlier episode. She’s hopeful that Rodge offers a good impression as their commitment to each other develops, despite speculation of an LAPD-focused relationship. Check out what Chavez had to say below:
ScreenRant: I’m not sure if it’s just me, but a few episodes ago, I thought we were seeing some sparks between Celina and Miles. Is there possibly something there?
Lisseth Chavez: That’s so funny. I feel like, hopefully, they will become good friends in the police force. Celina is a taken woman [laughs]. But it’s funny you say that. I think I read that a little bit too. I think I read some threads or something talking about that. I think it was when we were heading towards the elevator or something, and I think his girlfriend comes. But I think it is platonic.
ScreenRant: That was actually the exact moment I was thinking of.
Lisseth Chavez: No, I did read that too. I was like, “Really? Did it really read that way?” It’s a friendship, and I hope they remain friends. Hopefully you fall in love with [Rodge] the more you get to see him and see him and Celina together. But I think they’re great.

The Pair Will Seemingly Stay Platonic
There have been plenty of relationships between characters in The Rookie which have stemmed from their work. One of the biggest examples of this is Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), with the pair originally a rookie and training officer before starting a rocky romantic relationship. Adjacent to this is John Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) relationship with Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan), the pair getting together before marrying in season 6. These examples indicate a relationship between Celina and Miles wouldn’t be impossible.

However, the pair haven’t had much romantic development with one another, even if some scenes featuring the pair can be read into more deeply. Celina is also still dating Rodge by the end of The Rookie season 7, episode 10, the current stability of their relationship indicating it probably won’t be ending anytime soon. At present, the bigger focus of the show seems to be on its problems of the week, making it unclear how big a role romantic subplots will play in future storylines. For now, it seems like the duo will stay platonic for the foreseeable future.

Could The Pair Strike Up A Romance In The Future?
At present, it doesn’t seem like the relationship between Celina and Miles is going to change that much in season 7, especially given her new relationship. Although anything could happen in The Rookie‘s larger story, the pair’s current interactions with one another don’t indicate anything romantic is on the table right now. Seeing them develop a platonic friendship could make their pairing stand out within the LAPD, especially if they were to become an established duo in the show.
