This article contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 1, episode 4.A new MCU villain makes his debut in Daredevil: Born Again episode 4, further complicating things for Matt Murdock. Daredevil hasn’t caught a break in a while, as Bullseye killed Foggy Nelson in Daredevil: Born Again episode 1, and despite Matt Murdock’s successful attempts to clear his client’s name, Hector Ayala was assassinated in Daredevil: Born Again episode 3. Wilson Fisk and Frank Castle aren’t in a good position either, as the former is going through the first obstacle in his mayorship’s reputation and the latter has a tense encounter with Matt Murdock at a low point in his vigilante career.
Matt Murdock hasn’t found any clue about the identity of Hector Ayala’s murderer by the end of Daredevil: Born Again episode 4, but his mind is racing to find connections between the suspects. At the same time, Matt’s desire to don the Daredevil cowl again has become irresistible, even more so after his brief conversation with Frank Castle. Matt knows the implications of bringing Daredevil back at this point, but his thirst for revenge is bigger than his fear of Wilson Fisk’s retribution.

Muse Finally Appears On Screen Wearing His Comic-Accurate Costume In Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil’s new MCU villain only appears in two scenes of Daredevil: Born Again episode 4. At the beginning, the masked criminal Muse carries an unconscious body across train tracks and into the depths of a tunnel. At the end of Daredevil: Born Again episode 4, Muse pumps blood out of the body, making the unidentified individual scream in pain. Similar to his comic book counterpart, Muse sports a white costume covered in bloodstains, with streaks of blood running out of his mask’s eyeholes. By appearance alone, Muse might be one of the most terrifying villains in the entire MCU.

Daredevil: Born Again episode 4’s ending reveals why Muse carries an unconscious body at the beginning of the episode. But Muse probably isn’t pumping all the blood out of his victim’s body out of sheer pleasure. In the comics, Muse uses dead bodies in his artwork to deliver a message to New York and its vigilantes. Muse’s first gore-based public artwork in the source material is made with six Inhuman corpses. Muse’s next piece involves the drained blood of multiple victims, who are still alive by the time Muse’s plans are interrupted.

Muse’s brief appearance in Daredevil: Born Again episode 4 suggests that Muse’s first live-action piece will be based on his blood mural from the comics. Muse is an anonymous Marvel villain whose true origins remain unknown — a special feat in the Marvel Comics universe, as even the most mysterious criminals tend to reveal their identities at some point. In the comics, Muse starts creating his gory artworks some time before Wilson Fisk becomes Mayor of New York. Daredevil also gets Muse arrested before Fisk’s inauguration, and Muse develops a more intense feud with the hero Blindspot than he does with Daredevil himself. In fact, Muse dies after fighting Blindspot in the comics.

There, Muse discovers the tormented soul of a likeminded artist, Morgan Whittier, and he takes advantage of her violent impulses to turn her into his disciple. Since Morgan Whittier made her debut in January 2025, Morgan and Muse’s comic book story will probably continue to be developer in parallel to Daredevil: Born Again.
