In Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1, the franchise just revealed what Yoda would look like as a member of the Sith, complete with Palpatine-esque Force Lightning. While I’m not going to deny this design is cool – partly because it’s a vision of a possible future where the Jedi master was corrupted – I’ve seen better, and everyone else who is loving Yoda’s brush with the Dark Side needs to see it too.
In Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 – from Marc Guggenheim and Madibek Musabekov – a young Obi-Wan Kenobi experiences a Force vision of various possible futures. One potential event included in his visions is an image of Yoda as a Sith, wearing dark robes and brandishing a fist full of Force Lightning.
It’s a striking image of how Yoda would be physically corrupted by the Dark Side, as so many Jedi have been before (indeed, Sith heretic Darth Momin believed the Dark Side disfigures its servants in response to their failures.) However, with all due respect to this imposing and imaginative art, I couldn’t help but remember a piece of fanart I wrote about years ago, that’s still probably the coolest I’ve seen. Not only does this art depict an awesome Sith Yoda, it gives him a weapon way scarier than Force lightning.

Yoda Already Turned Sith in This Epic Star Wars Fanart
Sebastián Píriz Turned Yoda Into a Terrifying Villain
Artist Sebastián Píriz – the creator behind comic series including Johnny Quest and Disaster Inc. – is responsible for the fanart above, which shows Yoda as a fallen Jedi. The Jedi master’s black eyes and billowing robes make him an imposing sight, but so do the five lightsabers that he wields using the Force. Yoda was always a nimble lightsaber duelist whose style is all about constant movement and taking advantage of his immense power in the Force. It makes sense that as a Sith, Yoda would pursue the same tactics through different means, with his Force abilities capable of turning him into a deadly windmill of lightsaber blades. The crackling lightning connecting Yoda to his weapons turns him into the terrifying center of a lethal storm.
Píriz’s 2021 post on X points out a contradiction in Yoda’s teachings, observing that he engages in the same kind of philosophical absolutes that he previously identified as the sole province of the Sith. Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 has yet to reveal what could possibly tempt Yoda to the dark side, however fans already know many Jedi whose best intentions led them into the arms of the Sith.
Star Wars‘ new Sith Yoda is plenty exciting for fans, even if it’s not quite as unique as Sebastián Píriz’s five-lightsaber-wielding version – here’s hoping that the vision from the comic isn’t just a tease, and fans get to see the situation that could have corrupted Yoda if things had played out differently.
Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 is available now from Marvel Comics.

Yoda
The aged Jedi Master had trained Jedi for 800 years by the time he met Luke Skywalker on the planet Dagobah. One of the most famed and revered Jedi, Yoda served as Grand Master of the Jedi Order for centuries; he was powerful enough to duel Darth Sidious himself, although he was defeated. Yoda exiled himself to Dagobah, where he learned how to become a Force Ghost and offered guidance to Luke Skywalker.
