10 Features I Desperately Want To See In The Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase

Despite Monster Hunter Wilds already receiving several updates in the form of event quests and performance patches, Capcom is already gearing up for their very first title update this April. While not much has been revealed just yet, Wilds‘ developers will be unveiling even more details about the upcoming content coming to Monster Hunter Wilds in their live Twitch showcase on March 25th. Although the update is unlikely to address every single problem or opportunity for Wilds, there are plenty of reasons to look forward to the title update reveal.

Given how barren the current Monster Hunter Wilds update calendar is, Capcom revealing more about the first title update is a welcome announcement that’s bound to offer some exciting new features. With the guild’s influence becoming more prominent in the Forbidden Lands thanks to your successful hunts, a full expedition and all its expected amenities may be coming sooner than you would think. Even if Capcom can’t add every feature at once, I’d be more than happy if even a few of these additions are shown to be arriving in the first official title update.

More Options For Seikret Customization

Additional Freedom To Customize Your Feathery Friend

Despite being a major aspect of Monster Hunter WIlds, there aren’t nearly as many options for customizing your very own Seikret compared to your Hunter and Palico. While there are plenty of ways to change the color of the Seikret with several patterns and feathering options, there’s an absurdly low amount of armor for the trusty steed to equip, especially for a Monster Hunter game.

Monster Hunter Wilds does a lot right, but, seikret customization stands out as a massive missed opportunity in this next generation of Monster Hunter

Given that Siekret’s aren’t involved in combat, unlike their valiant Palicos counterparts, it makes sense that Capcom wouldn’t spend the time making dozens of new outfits solely for decoration. Even if the lack of customization makes sense from a development standpoint, the limited decoration options to customize your mount feels like a massively missed opportunity with how often you’ll use it. The customization problem is especially prominent if you didn’t purchase any cosmetic DLC, although this could easily be fixed in the upcoming title update or even simple event quests further down the line.

The Return Of Arena Challenge Quests

Giving Speedrunners An Official Challenge To Enjoy

Out of all the missing features in Wilds from previous entries, the lack of Arena quests is something I didn’t even notice until long after beating the game. While it might not be the most sorely missed feature from previous entries given its unique gameplay style, adding Arena Quests feels like a fairly easy addition in a future update. While there are some optional quests or random encounters that can pop up in Wilds’ arena, the dedicated area feels somewhat wasted without more quests currently making use of it.

Letting hunters test their skills on timed missions with a specific set of gear, Arena quests offer a fantastic way to test your skills while learning new weapons in a virtual environment. On top of the bragging rights from beating your friend’s mission times, Arena quests often had specific material rewards to craft exclusive armor that made them more than worth completing in previous entries.

Brand New Armor Sets And Gear

Offering More Options For Fashion Hunters

With the end-game to Monster Hunter Wilds not having the same perceived level of difficulty as previous entries, fashion hunting has become one of the best ways to get more replayability out of the game. Thanks to the new layered armor system and the removal of gender-locked armor, there’s more incentive than ever to go out and experiment with new outfit combinations. While there’s already a wide selection of armor in Wilds, a future title update could add more than just a single monster or two’s worth of gear to collect.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ High Rank outfit system has changed the endgame, helping give players purpose despite the lack of difficulty.

Mizutsune’s confirmation is already a fantastic starting point when it comes to fashionable new outfits to craft, being one of my go-to layered armors to use in Monster Hunter Rise. Whether in the form of variations of existing armor, more weapon subcategories, or stylish Palico gear, or even the addition of more layered exclusive armor like the dashing pre-order bonus is something I’m looking forward to seeing in the upcoming showcase.

A Surprising And Dangerous Invading Monster

Taking Great Advantage Of Wilds’ Pack-Based Mechanics

While I would prefer the exact returning monster to be a surprise, the concept of invading monsters returning would be a fantastic addition to Monster Hunter Wilds ​​​​​​given its new mechanics. Much like how Monster Hunter Rise quietly brought the dreaded Bazelguese without much warning, Wilds could easily slip in an additional monster alongside the already slippery Mizutsune. There are plenty of monsters to choose from, seeing a pack of Bazelguese raining down explosives from above is a sight that’s too excitingly terrifying not to consider.

Coupled with the open world and pack mechanics of Monster Hunter WIlds, bringing back invading monsters like Rajang, Nergigante, or the previously mentioned Bazelguese would be an amazing way to take advantage of Wilds‘ greatest strengths. Although Capcom seemed hesitant over the concept of invading monsters by scaling their aggressive mechanics in the previous Monster Hunter Rise, the chaos of numerous monsters running rampant in each area of Wilds already has everything it needs for invaders to succeed.

Interesting Optional Quests To Complete

Offering Unique Incentives To Dedicated Players

Although Monster Hunter Wilds has several side quests to unlock and complete throughout the game, most of the optional quests have so few rewards they aren’t worth completing for the most part. A large reason for the lack of interest in optional quests also comes from just how absurdly superior investigations are when it comes to farming in the end-game. While investigations may be limited to what monsters you’ve saved outside of SOS requests, they always offer significantly better rewards, albeit with limited replayability.

Monster Hunter Wilds has an under looked feature that completely reinvents the endgame grind; an extremely useful tool for any endgame player.

Future updates could take a more event-quest-inspired approach by offering unique rewards or gameplay mechanics for some optional quests, offering more incentives to choose them over a standard investigation. Even without the replayable aspect, simply having more fleshed-out missions with unique requirements similar to the level of interactivity in Wilds‘ side quests could make them much more engaging moving forward. Given that Monster Hunter Wilds‘ first title update has already confirmed new side quests are on the way, there’s a good chance that more appropriately difficult challenges will become available soon at the very least.

The Return Of Customizable Player Rooms

The Perfect Place For All Your Endemic Life

Given the wide array of unique and adorable endemic creatures that exist in the forbidden lands, it’s a massive shame that there’s simply nowhere to place them in Wilds​​​​​​. This is exactly where Monster Hunter World‘s customizable rooms came in, letting you fill out your own unique space with creatures you’ve caught while offering tools to decorate it from top to bottom. Although the room feature only saw its fully immersive potential reached in the eventual Iceborne expansion, the base games for Monster Hunter Rise and World still had a smaller one for you to decorate freely.

Even though the private rooms are one of the many features that surprisingly went missing in the transition to the next generation, their inclusion was likely held back for story reasons more than anything else. With the current camp being the first wave of expeditions into the forbidden lands, it makes sense there wouldn’t be enough resources to spare for luxurious living spaces. With a future update already planning to add a gathering hub to Wilds, the addition of a separate space for you to display your endemic life and achievements is something I’m crossing my fingers to see announced.

A Deadly New Elder Dragon To Hunt

Spicing Up The End-Game For Wilds

While the Apex monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds share plenty of similarities with Elder Dragons, acting as challenging end-game monsters with an elemental flair, they’re still somewhat weaker and have less of an impact than their more environment-shattering counterparts. It’s clear that Monster Hunter Wilds has been saving Elder Dragons as an additional post-game challenge, but the inclusion of at least one new Elder Dragon would be the perfect way to kick off its first title update.

Initially, Monster Hunter Wilds’ lack of elder dragons stood out as a major disappointment, but after playing Wilds further, the cut was worth it.

Given how overused Elder Dragons were in Monster Hunter World and Rise respectively, their absence was somewhat refreshing from the base game, even if it broke franchise tradition. Despite the absence of Elder Dragons providing a much-needed spotlight on the current pool of unique monsters, Wilds will need the additional monsters to flesh out its post-game content and up the stakes. Thankfully, the story of Monster Hunter Wilds prepared the inclusion of future Elder Dragons perfectly as the next step-up in difficulty, with Gore Magala already being a great jumping point as a recently classified demi-elder.

A Sneak-Peak At The New Gathering Hub

The Perfect Place To Socialize Before Hunts

Although the official Monster Hunter account on X has already confirmed the addition of a brand-new gathering hub in the upcoming title update, there’s just as little information revealed about it as in the current roadmap. While the hub will be limited to players who have already completed the main story for the game, it’s still the perfect way to take advantage of Monster Hunter Wilds‘ massive 100-player lobbies.

While it might be an inclusion some hunters wouldn’t think twice about visiting, the gathering hub is a core part of the social aspect that has helped make Monster Hunter so beloved over the years. Being the perfect place to prepare before a hunt or socialize with friends and strangers alike, the gathering hub offered a sense of familiarity and comfort that isn’t as present in the numerous Base Camps of Monster Hunter Wilds. With all the new environmental features and increased lobby sizes, I’m incredibly excited to see the style and features a brand-new gathering hub will utilize.

The Return Of Palico Cooks

The Most Sorely Missed Feature From The Franchise

Out of all the complaints over the most recent entry in the series, one of the biggest letdowns of Monster Hunter Wilds is the complete absence of Palico chefs. While it might not affect the actual gameplay of Wilds, the incredibly detailed Palico cooking animations filled with a deep level of personality and humor were something I didn’t know I would miss so much.

With the return of the aforementioned Gathering Hub to Monster Hunter Wilds, there seems to be a good chance that a proper canteen would be included based on franchise traditions alone. While it makes sense that the base camps wouldn’t be bringing professional chefs along instead of on-the-go cooking, the hunter’s actions on behalf of the guild more than warrant further expansion into the forbidden lands. With all the deadly new monsters and terrifying Elder Dragons Capcom has in store, a hearty meal made by adorable cats is just the thing you need to prepare for a life-or-death hunt.

More Customization With Layered Weapons

Fixing The Biggest Problems With Artian Weapons

With the drastic amount of customization options available in Wilds and the previous inclusion in Monster Hunter Rise, it was surprising to see that layered weapons were entirely absent in Monster Hunter Wilds. While there’s still a decent chance that layered weapons will return at some point in the future, they could very well be revealed sooner than later in the upcoming showcase.

Monster Hunter Wilds makes more of an effort to characterize its cast, but the best character isn’t who most people would probably expect.

Despite how powerful they are, the Artian weapons in Monster Hunter WIlds clash with most of the armor sets in the game at the best of times, and are downright disappointing at the worst. Thankfully, layered weapons would be the perfect solution to this problem, allowing you to freely customize your character’s appearance without losing any efficiency in combat. While it might be a while before layered weapons make their way to the forbidden lands, PC players can already access the feature through the use of some of the best mods Monster Hunter Wilds and its community has to offer.
