How To Fully Explore Mibuno Castle

Mibuno Castle is the closest castle to Naoe’s hometown in Iga, but it’s not an obstacle that you have to tackle right away in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It’s worth exploring, though, and the overall complexity of cleaning out the rewards found inside is more easily manageable than some of the larger castles in the game. Castles in Assassin’s Creed Shadows house legendary chests with memorable loot, but they also contain beefy samurai daisho enemies that need to be eliminated before unlocking the chest.

Mibuno Castle only contains two samurai daisho, so little stands between Naoe or Yasuke and Mibuno Castle’s legendary chest. With the right approach, it’s possible to clean out Mibuno Castle and walk away with plenty of loot without getting in any sticky situations or ending up with the dreaded Wanted status.

Where To Find Mibuno Castle In Iga

Mibuno Castle Map Assassin's Creed Shadows

Mibuno Castle can be found on the far right of Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ map in the Iga region, just northwest of Naoe’s House in Mibuno Vale. The castle sits on a hill rather than right off the road, making it easy to spot but just slightly out of the way. If you’ve visited the nearby viewpoint of Tejikara Vista and synchronized, you can fast travel to cut the journey short.

Where The Two Daisho Can Be Found

While Yasuke shouldn’t have too much trouble brawling his way through Mibuno Castle, getting to either of its samurai daisho when attempting a stealth run can be more of a challenge. The first can be found in the guard tower at the south end of the fortress, so it’s possible to scale the tower to assassinate him before moving on to the rest of Mibuno Castle. Entering from the front of the castle risks exposure, though, so I used the grapple hook to scale the back side of Mibuno Castle and left the first daisho for later.

Guaranteed Assassination in Assassin’s Creed Shadows has many pros and cons, and you’ll want to consider whether it’s the right setting for you.

The other daisho is in the middle of the central courtyard, standing across from another soldier. To avoid fighting both at once, you can sneak up from behind fast enough for one assassination or use a kunai or ranged weapon to eliminate the weaker member of the pair. I picked up the Wrath of the Oni Epic Trinket from the corpse of this daisho, but you may not have the same luck.

Legendary Chest Location In Mibuno Castle

An Easily Accessible Legendary Chest

Mibuno Castle has no tenshu tower to climb, so the chest can simply be found sitting inside the building at the back of the courtyard. The chest is sitting flush against the north wall. If you enter from the front, you should already have both daisho out of the way by the time you reach it, but it’s easy to double back with a different approach. Upon opening the chest, you’ll receive the following rewards:

  • Minogame’s Protection
  • Damage for Empty Armor Pieces Engraving
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • 3,000 XP

Minogame’s Protection is a Legendary Trinket that allows the bearer to deal +50% damage per empty Armor Piece, an effect that can be applied elsewhere with its powerful attached engraving. This could be a great way to turn the game into more of a high-risk, high-reward endeavor, resulting in a more interesting playstyle overhaul than most trinkets in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Other Rewards In Mibuno Castle

Chests, Resources, & A Codex Entry

Although the overall wealth of Mibuno Castle is designated as Low, you can still pick up some other useful items here. One mid-sized chest is located in the building halfway along the western wall. You’ll find the most worthwhile loot at the north end of the castle.

  • You can find the kura key in a shed in the northwest corner of the camp.
  • Along the back wall, the long building and the shed unlocked by the kura key both contain resources to smuggle.
  • The building just below the northeast corner contains more resources, another mid-sized chest, and some rations if you need to re-supply.

A number of smaller chests can also be found throughout Mibuno Castle, so you’ll be lightly rewarded for entering every building and climbing every tower. A codex entry on the practice of Kubi-jikken, or “head inspection,” can also be found in the middle of the courtyard. If you want to make an early escape, however, you can get most of what you need without doing anything more than taking out the daisho and making a clean run of the castle’s northern buildings.
