The Terminal List: Dark Wolf

Following the success of The Terminal List season 1, the series is not only returning with a second season, but also with a spinoff entitled The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. The original series was based on the books by Jack Carr, introducing Chris Pratt as the hero, Navy SEAL James Reece. However, The Terminal List prequel series will largely focus on Reece’s former friend Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) who is revealed to be part of the conspiracy at the center of the franchise.

The Terminal List debuted on Amazon Prime on July 1, 2022, with an 8-episode first season. While the show received mixed reviews for its revenge story, it was a big enough hit for Amazon to greenlight The Terminal List season 2. Not only that, but it seems to have launched a James Reece expanded universe with the announcement of The Terminal List prequel show. Dark Wolf will dive into the backstory of The Terminal List villain Ben and how he got involved with the drug trials that caused Reece and his men to be targeted.

The Terminal List prequel series has been confirmed to be in the works on Amazon Prime Video. The show was announced alongside the renewal of The Terminal List for season 2, and the shared announcement hints at big plans for the franchise at Amazon. Director Antoine Fuqua confirmed the prequel series was heavy into production when it was halted due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in late 2023. With those strikes resolved, production once again got moving on Prime’s new franchise.

The WGA strike was resolved on September 27th, 2023, and the SAG-AFTRA strike was resolved on November 9th, 2023.

Little news surfaced throughout all of 2024, and it wasn’t until early 2025 that Prime Video announced a release window for Dark Wolf. Though the prequel hasn’t set an exact release date yet, it is now set to arrive in summer 2025. It’s unclear how the release of Dark Wolf will coincide with the future of The Terminal List, but it will likely be a much longer wait for season 2 of the original series.

While The Terminal List prequel story details have not officially been revealed, the fact that it is a prequel surrounding Ben Edwards gives a good idea of what to expect. The Terminal List season 1 ending revealed that Ben was the final name to be added to Reece’s list and The Terminal List: Dark Wolf will surely delve into how Ben became involved with the conspiracy and why he turned on his friend. Given the sympathetic nature of Reece in The Terminal List, it will be interesting to see this new show feature a protagonist audiences already know as a villain.
