Wait, Did Dragon Ball Daima Imply Humans Are Actually Demons?

Dragon Ball Daima was a truly revolutionary gift for fans of Akira Toriyama’s beloved series. The show manages to bring back the magic fans experienced when they were first introduced to Goku and his friends, proving itself a loving tribute to the author’s career. It also accomplished the difficult task of expanding the already complex lore of the series in a fun and easy-to-follow manner.

For many fans, Daima has been one of the most eye-opening experiences in years, as it solved many of the mysteries revolving around the plot. Nonetheless, in its attempt to solve as many enigmas as possible, it also opened the door for new questions and theories. One that has not been explored yet is the possibility of humans having been originally from the Demon Realm, a hypothesis that seems to be fully supported by the plot.

The Demon Realm Is the Origin of Most Species

Daima Revealed Several Races Were Not Originally From Universe 7

In episode #1 of the Dragon Ball Daima anime, Gomah and Neva shared a conversation that changed everything fans knew about the Namekian race. According to the Demon King, Piccolo’s species was originally from the Demon Realm, until most of them escaped to other dimensions. Later in the story, it was revealed that Shin’s species, the Glind, were also once inhabitants of Gomah’s domain. These two shocking details about two of the most iconic alien races in the franchise led fans to wonder what other species could have once been demons.

One of the common denominators among all the races who were once part of the Demon Realm is their knowledge of magic. This technique, believed by fans to have originated in Universe 7, is one of the most important sources of power used by demonic fighters. Most inhabitants of the Demon Realm have no access to Ki, so they instead opt to train their natural talent for magic to become stronger and survive the harsh conditions of their home. As such, aliens with remnants of demonic blood in them can use magical abilities.

Dragon Ball Daima’s Demon Realm Isn’t Just Great, It Confirms What Makes Akira Toriyama A Once-In-A-Lifetime Master

Dragon Ball Daima is set to take place in the Demon Realm, a previously unexplored world that could’ve only been created by the great Akira Toriyama.

Nonetheless, it is important to note that not all members of these species have access to magic like the Namekians. This implies that, as the demon blood has diluted with time, their connection to magic has become weaker. Humans, to a much lesser degree, have also exhibited the ability to utilize magic, like one of the original series’ most iconic characters, Fortune Teller Baba. According to the logic established by the Daima anime, this could imply humans are also descendants of demons.

Dragon Ball’s Earth Supports This Theory

The Lack of Evolution in the Series Indicates It Does Not Work Like in Real Life

The claim that humans were once inhabitants of the Demon Realm might sound like a far-fetched concept, there are many hints that point to this being the case. Daima episode #10 explained to fans that the multiverse they had grown familiar with during the Super era had a much more complex origin than they could have imagined. According to the series, Rymus, the most powerful creature ever introduced to the franchise, was responsible for creating the various universes that appeared in the sequel. Due to this, the series only leaves two possibilities as to how humans populated the Earth.

The first interpretation of this event could be that humans evolved naturally as the planet’s atmosphere and conditions changed. Like it happened in real life, humans were born from a common ancestor shared with another mammal species. Yet, the world of Dragon Ball does not seem to follow the same natural laws as in real life, as proven by the animal species that are still alive to this day. The presence of dinosaurs and giant flying reptiles suggests that evolution does not work as expected in the world of Dragon Ball.

“There Are Creatures Like Buu on Earth”: Real World Scientist Has a Theory for What Dragon Ball’s Majin Buu Really Is, & Why Only Saiyans Could Defeat Him

There might have been a Cell Saga, but a Hokkaido University professor talks about Majin Buu being the true powerhouse of the cell in Dragon Ball.

Another explanation could be that, in this universe, humanity arrived on Earth several centuries before they were supposed to. When Rymus created the multiverse, it was possible that a species of low-power level demons saw the opportunity to leave behind the dangerous Demon Realm. They established themselves on Earth during the time of the dinosaurs. As they evolved, their demonic characteristics began disappearing, until they forgot about their origins. This would explain why, against all logic, humans and prehistoric creatures coexist.

Demon Blood Could Also Explain Mutations

Humans Could Be Similar to Namekians

While the series does not often discuss the subject, the demonic nature of certain alien species has been revealed to fans years in advance of the release of Daima. One of the biggest examples of this practice is the sons of King Piccolo, who were openly referred to as demons. Their evil nature, likely to originate from a high concentration of demonic blood, made them manifest mutations. As such, they looked extremely different from other members of their species. Even though earthlings do not often exhibit these traits, several characters fit this pattern, like Tien Shinhan.

Said to be the descendant of an ancient tribe of humans with three eyes, Goku’s old friend and rival could be an example of humans developing demonic traits. Other lesser-known species such as the Beastmen or monster-like individuals could also be explained by the inclusion of demonic blood in the planet’s history. As humans have evolved, the traits of their demonic ancestors have started to dwindle, but beings with a high concentration of demon blood in their veins might exhibit these characteristics.

Could Humans Awaken Their Powers Once Again?

Demon Blood Might Be What Humans Need To Become Relevant Again

Dragon Ball: strongest human featured, with Master Roshi, Mr. Satan, and Yamcha.

It comes as no surprise to Dragon Ball fans that humans have become less and less relevant to the story as time goes on. Despite several of the Z fighters having once been among the strongest characters in the series, they are now mostly left on the sidelines. Still, there might be a solution to this problem, one that could help humans become important once again. If humans are indeed revealed to be descendants of demons, learning to harness their abilities could help them become stronger. Some of the strongest humans, like Krillin, could even learn to control magic.

Whether humanity was born in the Demon Realm or not, there is no doubt that the Dragon Ball Daima anime will continue to shock and inspire fans to explore their ideas about the series. There are still many mysteries and big plotholes that need to be addressed, and viewers will wait as long as needed to find the answers to their hypotheses.
