Who Voices Invincible Season 3’s New Demon Villain & Where You Know Them From

The following contains spoilers for Invincible season 3 episode 8, “I Thought You’d Never Shut Up,” now streaming on Prime VideoInvincible‘s latest big casting surprise is connected to a new demon villain. Invincible has been a largely faithful recreation of the comic of the same name. That’s what makes big departures from the source material so exciting, which is exactly what happened in the mid-credits scene of “I Thought You’d Never Shut Up.” A new demonic character who was absent from the comics has made his debut on the show, setting up a more important role in season 4 (as well as a return for Damien Darkblood, who has been absent from the show since season 1).

Making this even more intriguing is the man behind the character. Invincible has always boasted an impressive voice cast, with many stars filling out the central and supporting roles of the Prime Video superhero show. The fact that this new character seems to be connected to the supernatural makes his voice actor particularly fitting, given his own place in the horror lexicon. Here is who plays the demon in Invincible and what it means for season 4.

The Demon In Invincible Season 3 Is Voiced By Evil Dead’s Bruce Campbell

Clancy Brown’s Damien Is Set To Unleash Campbell’s Demon Into Season 4

The demon who appears in Invincible‘s season 3 finale may be unnamed, but the credits to the episode confirm this mysterious figure is played by Bruce Campbell. While most of “I Thought You’d Never Shut Up” is focused on the battle between Mark Grayson and his allies against the brutal Viltrumite Conquest, the credits scene shifts the action to the underworld. There, audiences are reintroduced to Damien Darkblood. Condemned to hell by Cecil, Damien has made contact with a former lord of hell and offers him an opportunity to return to the surface and claim someone powerful as their servant.

Invincible isn’t the only superhero property Bruce Campbell has been a part of. He cameoed in each of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, as well as Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

Bruce Campbell is a fixture of the horror genre. Finding his big break as Ash in his friend Sam Raimi’s film The Evil Dead, Campbell has been a mainstay of the franchise and carried several films and a TV show. Campbell has been a genre icon in the years since. His inclusion in Invincible as a mysterious demon is fitting given his connection to the horror genre. Invincible has only had a few mystical characters, so it’s fun to see Campbell get one of the few overtly supernatural figures in the show.

Bruce Campbell’s Demon Will Have A Bigger Role In Invincible Season 4 (But It’s Not From The Comics)

The ending of Invincible season 3 suggests that the mysterious demon has greater schemes in mind for the world at large, with plans to spread his grasp back to the larger world. What makes this unique in Invincible is that it’s not actually pulling from the comics. While Damien did appear in the early story arcs of Invincible, he was quickly banished from the plot and only ever played a minor (and largely comedic) role in the story. His appearance in “I Thought You’d Never Shut Up” suggests the character has turned evil and has plans for the surface world.

Forget Omni-Man, Invincible’s Worst Character Isn’t the Person You’d Expect

The worst villain in Invincible isn’t Omni-Man, or any other maniacal super-powered mastermind. The truth is, he’s not even the worst father.

This could end up being an evolution of Damien’s comically negated role in the comics, playing up the gag by casting a horror icon as his master only to not do anything with it. This story could also be a fresh plot for Invincible season 4, a new villain to keep Earth’s heroes busy while Invincible heads off into space for the “Viltrumite War” arc alongside his brother and father. Bruce Campbell’s casting could easily fit either, but it’d be more exciting to see the horror icon go full villain in Invincible season 4.
