The Librarians: The Next Chapter

More than five years after the original series was canceled, The Librarians: The Next Chapter will continue the age-old story. Beginning in 2014, The Librarians was envisioned as a continuation of the movie series of the same name in which a secret organization protects the public from the world of magic and fantasy that exists just beneath the surface. Mixing elements of fantasy with notable literary characters, The Librarians offered fans a peak into an entire universe of possibilities.

Despite its relative popularity and large fanbase, The Librarians was canceled by TNT in 2018 after only four seasons, and the series sought a new home before quietly fading away. The audience for the stories hasn’t dwindled in the slightest since then, and it is still recognized as one of the best fantasy TV shows with a real-life setting. Fortunately for longtime fans of the franchise, the cancelation in 2018 did not close the book on The Librarians and now a new continuation is on the way.

From its inception, the series was always meant to be a part of The CW’s 2024-2025 season, and it was set to begin on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 9 pm EST. However, The CW removed it from that timeslot and penciled in the docuseries The Wranglers instead. A Mostly New Cast For The Next Chapter

Though the logline for The Librarians: The Next Chapter made it seem as if the original cast would not appear, it will be a mix of old and new faces. The first name announced was Jessica Green (The Outpost), who will play the role of martial artist Charlie Cornwall. Charlie was previously a candidate to be a Guardian but was rejected by the Librarians. Now, she will be looking to redeem herself. Alongside Green, original series star Christian Kane will reprise his role as Jacob Stone. Kane played the intrepid Librarian throughout all four seasons of the original series.

He will be joined by Olivia Morris’ skeptical Scientist Lysa Pascal, and similarly skeptical Historian Connor Green, played by Bluey Robinson. Finally, Caroline Loncq will play the Caretaker Elaine Astalot, who has presided over the library for centuries.
