Kier Eagan’s statue had a fairly lengthy conversation in Severance season 2’s finale, leading many to wonder if it is actually alive. As far as the extended members of Severance‘s cast of characters go, Kier Eagan is a strange inclusion in the show. The founder of Lumon’s likeness has only ever been shown in statue or video form, with the only voice given to the character provided by a Ben Stiller cameo role in Severance season 1.

In Severance season 2’s finale, Kier Eagan had his biggest role yet. After Mark completed Severance‘s sinister Cold Harbor file, he was presented with a comedic interchange between Mr. Milchick and the statue of Kier Eagan from Lumon’s Perpetuity Wing. Kier Eagan’s statue was talking back to Milchick while congratulating Mark on the historic day for Lumon and although his responses could have been pre-recorded, some direct replies to Milchick indicated that the statue was more alive than first thought.

In Severance season 2’s finale, it is likely that Kier’s wax statue was responding using an AI version of the founder. The reason for this is the abrupt changes in conversation that do not seem to be planned, especially based on Milchick’s reactions. The first hint of this comes when Kier outright interrupts Milchick, insulting the latter for his lengthy words that have been criticized by the likes of Mr. Drummond throughout the season. Milchick seems taken aback, even throwing an insult of his own back at the Kier statue.

An AI consciousness would reinforce Severance‘s themes of workplace worries…

The statue’s voice then drops all pleasantries and replies “Thank you for that feedback, Seth.” The notable change in Kier’s tone and demeanor at this moment proves that the statue’s voice lines are not pre-recorded and could hint that AI has been used to recreate the founder’s consciousness. Another possibility is that a member of Lumon’s mysterious Board was speaking through the statue as they do with Natalie, but an AI consciousness would reinforce Severance‘s themes of workplace worries, with AI replacements of workers being a prevalent issue in the real world.

Could The Past Eagan Family Members Still Be Controlling Lumon?

If it is revealed that Kier Eagan’s statue was created using AI technology, some major Eagan family theories from Severance will be made more plausible. One such theory dates back to the early episodes of Severance season 1, with many claiming that even the oldest Eagan family members somehow live on through their statues. This theory was then expanded, further claiming that the recreated consciousnesses of the Eagans are running Lumon via the aforementioned Board that has never been seen.

Severance’s Eagan Family Tree Explained

The Eagans play a huge role in Severance, and their family tree is briefly explained during the crew’s visit to the Perpetuity Wing in season one.

Admittedly, it is unlikely that Lumon’s Eagan family members are still “alive” in any capacity. This would lean much further into the fiction side of science fiction than Severance usually does, yet AI recreations of the family would certainly fit the show’s tone, themes, and genre. If, indeed, Kier’s statue from Severance season 2’s finale is an AI version of Lumon’s founders, several other theories about the show may be closer than ever to being confirmed.
