Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

The impressive cast of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition can be attributed to the inclusion of four new characters you can recruit to your team throughout the game. These additions from the original are unique faces who can help you build a strong party to take on numerous challenges. Due to their strengths, each new party member may add something new that your team needs to succeed.
The enhanced version of Xenoblade Chronicles X received several updates to its graphics, gameplay, and systems through the Definitive Edition. One of these changes includes the addition of an active party system that allows you to switch between party members at any time. While a seemingly small change, this opens up the door for more party experimentation, encouraging you to try out the four new characters in the game.

How To Recruit Liesel
Reach The Right Level Requirement For A Quest
One of the first new characters you can recruit is Liesel, who I managed to add to my roster early along my journey. You need to be at least Level 25 to recruit Liesel, so make sure to complete enough of the main story to reach this point. You can also explore Mira and several of its regions to earn experience quickly enough to reach Liesel’s prerequisite.
An easy way to grind XP to reach character recruitment requirements is to raise the Survey Rate of an area. Completing missions from map Segments will always give you Credits and Experience, allowing you to raise your Level fast.
You recruit Liesel after completing the “New Skell on the Block” quest. This is an Affinity Quest, or a type of special mission tied to character recruitment or building relationships with established party members in your roster. These missions typically feature full cutscenes, dialogue, and other notable features that stand out compared to other mechanics in Xenoblade Chronicle X‘s gameplay.

Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch Is A Bigger Deal Than You Might Realize
Xenoblade Chronicles X is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch after nearly a decade, and it’s a much bigger deal than some may realize.
Recruiting Liesel also lets you gain a new Skell – a type of mech used in battle throughout the game. Skells are normally hard to obtain, so this recruitment missions should be at the top of your priorities to gain such a powerful weapon early in your adventures.
How To Recruit NeilNail
Travel To The Right Location At The Right Time
NeilNail is another new character you can recruit fairly early, but you need to complete Chapter 5 of the story first. After you’ve made enough progress, you also need to be at least Level 21 before you can start pursuing this potential party member.
Once you’ve met all the right requirements, head to BLADE Tower in New Los Angeles and start looking for another Affinity Quest. You should find one labeled, “The Qlurian Archaeologist” at the BLADE Concourse area within the Tower, so explore that section of the area. You can always open your map to make searching for the quest easier with the Definitive Edition‘s new UI changes.
The Affinity Mission is located very close to the BLADE Barracks, right below other areas like the Armory Alley and Restricted Hangar Entrance in BLADE Tower.
Complete “The Qlurian Archaeologist” mission to recruit NeilNail and add them to your party. While you don’t need anyone specific in your party to help recruit NeilNail, you can’t have Celica in your group for this mission, giving you a slight restriction.
How To Recruit Ga Jirag & Alexa
Complete Story Chapters And Another Affinity Quest
The last two new characters in the game are Ga Jirag and Alexa, two separate party members who are recruited later than NeilNail or Leisel. The following table outlines how to recruit both of these new faces, including if there are any restrictions or requirements tied to them:
Party Member |
How To Recruit |
Requirements/Restrictions |
---|---|---|
Ga Jirag |
Complete Chapter 6 of the story. |
N/A |
Alexa |
Complete the “Fitting In” Affinity Quest, which can be found in the New Los Angeles Industrial District. |
|
As you can see, recruiting Alexa is far more complicated than adding Ga Jirag to your roster of party members. While these new characters are big surprises in Xenoblade Chronicles X, you may miss them entirely if you don’t meet the right requirements. However, if you manage to get either of these characters, they can be powerful assets to your team.
There are still at least a dozen other characters you can recruit throughout the game who could be useful to your party. Once you’ve figured out how to recruit the new party members from Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, you may want to figure out how to add other characters to your team to help complete your squad before your journey ends.
