Z-A’s Quasartico Inc. May Be Setting Up A New Pokémon Tradition

Quasartico Inc. will play an important role in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, being behind Lumiose City’s redevelopment, but the company may also be helping to set up a new tradition for any future Pokémon Legends games to follow. There are already a wide range of traditions found in the Pokémon franchise, but this new subseries still has an opportunity to carve out a more unique identity with its own conventions. Moreover, considering both Quasartico Inc. and the contents of Legends: Arceus, it seems that at least one such tradition is already being developed.
As Legends: Z-A is only the second title in the Pokémon Legends subseries, it is unclear just how many of Legends: Arceus‘s own mechanics will become recurring features going forward. This is especially true given how different the upcoming title is already proving to be, with battles in Legends: Z-A being radically different to those of past Pokémon games. However, what is known about Quasartico Inc. and the wider setting of the game already provide some intriguing hints as to what elements may also appear in the next Pokémon Legends game.
The Name Of Quasartico Inc. Has A Significant Meaning
It Creates A Link With Legends: Arceus’ Galaxy Exploration Team
Although the name ‘Quasartico’ seems impressive on its own, it also has a very specific meaning. It clearly comes from the word ‘quasar’, which is an incredibly bright object in outer space, an effect created by an enormous black hole at the center of a galaxy. Of course, this in itself is a very evocative name, presenting the company as a bright light for all of Kalos. But arguably much more important than this symbolism is the fact that this space theme seems to be creating a pattern for Pokémon Legends games.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Hasn’t Shown Off Nighttime Gameplay Yet, & I Think I Know Why
The absence of official nighttime footage of Pokémon Legends: Z-A is notable, but there is one strong possibility for what may be hidden by this.
Given the name of Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ Galaxy Expedition Team, this means that both Pokémon Legends titles so far have an organization central to the plot with a space-themed name. Of course, on its own, this may simply be another example of Pokémon‘s naming sense influencing its worldbuilding in small but interesting ways. However, Quasartico Inc. may have a much greater importance to Kalos than what has been officially revealed so far, which would deepen the emerging tradition considerably.
Quasartico Inc. May Be A Rebranded Lysandre Labs
There Are Hints That The Villainous Company Still Exists In Some Form
Not much is known for certain about the activities of Quasartico Inc. beyond its involvement with Lumiose City’s urban redevelopment plan. Of course, this alone means that the company must have significant influence in Kalos, despite the fact that its name has never appeared before in the franchise. But with the context gained from both gameplay footage and the background of Pokémon X and Y, it is far from unthinkable that Quasartico Inc. could be the modern incarnation of Lysandre Labs, the company owned by Team Flare boss Lysandre.
Of particular note in the recent promotional footage of life in Lumiose City is the fact that residents apparently have access to an advanced form of the Holo Caster. This device was originally created by Lysandre Labs, and could itself provide Legends Z-A with an interesting new online feature. But at the same time, similar hologram technology can also be seen as part of the city’s new wild areas, something that would seem to connect its usage to Quasartico Inc. instead.
Holo Casters were also revealed to have been used by Lysandre and Team Flare to spy on their users, something that would further encourage a brand change to preserve the company’s image and ensure Holo Casters continue to be used by the public.
This apparent discrepancy would be easy to resolve if the name of Quasartico Inc. is in fact an attempt to rebrand Lysandre Labs after the events of Pokémon X and Y. After all, it would make complete sense for Lysandre Labs to distance itself from its founder given he was revealed to have been plotting genocide against the region. The name ‘Quasartico’ could have been chosen to obscure this connection to the villain, marking a fresh start for the company without him.
Legends: Z-A Could Establish A Pattern For Villainous Teams
Pokémon Legends Games Could All Give New Perspectives On Pokémon’s Evil Teams
If Quasartico Inc. was originally Lysandre Labs, then this would mean that both Pokémon Legends titles’ core organizations would not only share a naming theme, but also both have a close connection to their respective region’s evil teams. In Legends: Arceus, Cyllene resolves to pass down stories of the Galaxy Team to her descendants, presumably inspiring her descendant Cyrus with the name for Team Galactic. Combined with the link between Lysandre Labs and Team Flare, this would suggest that the Pokémon Legends subseries could be developing a pattern of exploring the legacies surrounding Pokémon‘s various evil teams.
The modern setting of Lumiose City makes the title of Legends: Z-A seem rather incongruous, but an exploration of the legacy left by Lysandre and Team Flare would definitely help invoke the concept of a Legend. Alongside the already clear recurring space theme, the game has the opportunity to solidify an intriguing pattern. As such, Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Quasartico Inc. could not only have a significant impact on the game in question, but also every future release in the subseries.
