Controversial Skater Reportedly Appearing In Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 After Apparent Exclusion

Controversial skateboarder Bam Margera is reportedly appearing in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 after supposedly being excluded from the remake. Margera, also known for his role in the Jackass franchise, has been dealing with longstanding substance abuse, health, and legal concerns. In 2021, he was dismissed from the film Jackass Forever following allegations of inappropriate conduct. He first appeared in the Tony Hawk series in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 in 2001 and remained a mainstay in the series until 2007’s Proving Ground.

According to a claim made in The Live Club podcast (via VGC), the removal of Margera did not sit well with Tony Hawk himself, who reportedly advocated for his inclusion. While Activision never formally confirmed or denied Margera’s presence in the upcoming remake, the initial list of playable skaters for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 didn’t include Margera, whose absence would have been quite noticeable to longtime players and skating fans.

Tony Hawk Reportedly Insisted That Bam Margera Be In THPS 3 + 4

The Request Was Made As The Game Nears Release

Despite the game’s impending summer release in July, Hawk purportedly used his voice and influence to have Margera added to the anticipated THPS 3+4 remake. According to Roger Badley, co-host of The Live Club, “The game [THPS 3+4] was already done. Tony called up Activision and was like ‘hey, we’re putting Bam in the thing’, and they were like ‘hey, we can’t’. He goes ‘no, you’re gonna do it’, and basically made them fly Bam back out there to get body-scanned and everything else, and get him back in the game.” Badley’s comments were made in a members-only livestream on the podcast’s YouTube channel.

While neither Activision, Margera, or Hawk have confirmed Badley’s statements, Margera recently posted a video to his Instagram account of him and Hawk skating together, which continued to fuel fan speculation about his return.

Margera Maintains His Status As A Fixture In The Franchise

Bam Margera Vice Epicly Laterd

Margera has enjoyed a prolific skating career despite his personal struggles. He was a fan favorite in previous Tony Hawk installments thanks to his character’s edgy look and outrageous stunts, and his absence in the announcement trailer didn’t go unnoticed. In the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, he appeared as a default skater who could be used to unlock Moon Physics Mode if a player met all Goals and won all Gold Medals.

This isn’t the first time Margera’s presence has been downplayed in a Tony Hawk game: he was missing from a banner seen in the Hanger level of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. Activision did not provide any explanation for his exclusion from the banner, leaving fans to assume Margera’s exclusion was related to his legal struggles. Personal issues aside, Margera is an iconic skater both in and out of the video game world, and a snub in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 would not have gone over well with longtime fans.
