God Of War’s Future On Prime Video Means Amazon Has Found Its Perfect Fallout Replacement

The upcoming God of War show has an exciting future at Amazon, meaning Prime Video might have found its next great video game adaptation following Fallout‘s success. After losing the showrunner and two creative directors, the God of War plans now have an update. The major creative overhaul had left the future of the adaptation uncertain, but things look to be back on track. God of War has a new showrunner in Star Trek‘s Ronald D. Moore, who will also be the writer and executive producer.
The adaptation has extensive source material, as there are ten games in the God of War franchise, with spin-offs and side games to take into account. The overarching story follows the Spartan warrior Kratos as he journeys through both Greek and Norse mythology, seeking redemption after he is tricked into killing his family. The story is an epic tale, with many battles, revenge missions, powerful moments, and appearances of gods from different mythologies. The complex world of God of War would be impossible to cram into just one movie or a limited series, which is why multiple seasons would be ideal.
God Of War Has Already Received A Two-Season Order At Amazon
It Is Not Yet Known Which God Of War Games Amazon Will Adapt
In an interview with the sci-fi icon Katee Sackoff on her podcast The Sackoff Show, Moore described God of War as “a big title in the gaming world“ and confirmed that Amazon had ordered two seasons of the show. He told Katee “I’m literally in the writers’ room and working on that. That’s my new thing […]” While Moore has admitted that he is not a gamer and struggles with modern controls, his experience working in major franchises makes it likely that he will give fans things we want to see in God of War.
It is unclear which of the God of War games Amazon will adapt, especially because there are at least two different major eras that they could cover. Currently, none of the characters have been cast yet and little is known about the story. That said, Amazon Studios Head of Television, Vernon Sanders, confirmed with Collider that the adaptation will be faithful to the videogames, and described the first season as “incredibly true to the source material, and also compelling on its own.”
God Of War’s Two-Season Order Means Amazon Is Confident About The Show
Like Fallout, The God Of War Show Could Change The Game For Adaptations
Ronald D. Moore has extensive experience working on big-budget, long-running productions, which is a good sign for God of War. The world and story have received critical acclaim, with God of War having won Game of the Year in 2005 and 2018, as well as several other awards, including the BAFTA Games Awards. Taking into account the confirmation that the TV show will stick closely to the games, the adaptation is likely to be a success. Amazon certainly seems to think so, because ordering two seasons before the show is even filmed is a great show of confidence for God of War.
The TV show’s success sparked a new wave of sales of the Fallout game, and it is possible that the God of War TV show could have the same effect.
Both the Fallout and God of War franchises have enjoyed massive success, with God of War being slightly more popular when comparing the best-loved games. Fallout 4 sold over 13 million copies, while God of War (2018) sold over 23 million. In its first 16 days, the Fallout TV adaptation set an impressive viewership record of 65 million people, giving it the second-best start of any Prime Video show. The TV show’s success sparked a new wave of sales of the Fallout game, and it is possible that the God of War TV show could have the same effect on the games.
God Of War Can Be Prime Video’s Next Big Video Game Show After Fallout
Fallout Got A Lot Of Things Right
God of War and Fallout are extremely different games, but they have some major things in common. The worldbuilding and character arcs are very strong in both games, and they each have a distinctive look, with memorable costumes. The Fallout TV show created a sense of immersion and told an original story within that world, which paid off. Like Fallout, God of War already has a very passionate fanbase, and if the TV adaptation is just as well-executed as Fallout, it could become Prime Video’s next big video game show.

Amazon Already Cast The Perfect Kratos For Their God Of War Show… In Another Show
Amazon may not have officially confirmed who will play Kratos in the new God of War show, but the streamer already has the perfect actor for the role.
Fallout kept the attention of gamers as well as newcomers to the lore by making the story easy to follow for everyone while including plenty of Fallout game Easter eggs and hidden details for fans to spot. The God of War TV show is almost certain to attract both groups too and must take a similar approach, allowing people to become interested in the story (and perhaps, by extension, the games) while rewarding long-time fans with extra references. This approach has worked for the best videogame adaptations and should help God of War to be a success.
