Hilary Swank’s Character Finally Makes Her Debut

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 7, “Croak.”
Hilary Swank’s mysterious character is set to make her Yellowjackets debut in season 3, episode 8. Despite being teased in the season 3 trailers, Swank’s character has been absent from episodes 1-7. Yellowjackets season 3, episode 7’s ending sees Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) preparing to confront the daughter of Hannah Finch (Ashley Sutton), who she believes is her stalker. This means that Swank could be playing Hannah’s daughter, whose face has not been shown yet in season 3.
Paramount+ (via TV Promos) has now released the season 3, episode 8 trailer, which ends with Swank’s character saying, “Does she know what you did, what you’re capable of?” to an unseen individual. Prior to this, the teenage survivors are seen overwhelming Hannah with questions about what is happening in the outside world, including Van (Liv Hewson) asking if The X-Files‘ Mulder and Scully have gotten together. Tension escalates further between teenage Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) and Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) while Taissa (Tawny Cypress) is seen panicking in the present day. Check out the trailer below:
What This Means For Yellowjackets
More Characters May Soon Die In The Past And Present
If Swank’s character is Hannah’s daughter, and if she is talking to Shauna in the trailer, she seems surprisingly calm. Instead of begging for her life, it almost sounds as if she is challenging the character being kept offscreen. Shauna’s stalker needed a certain amount of confidence to blackmail and threaten her, but it is still surprising to see Swank’s character so calm and composed. Knowing Shauna and the knife she has with her, Swank’s character is in real danger, though.

Elsewhere in the trailer, it seems like the teenage survivors are splitting into two groups. One group, led by Shauna and presumably Lottie (Courtney Eaton) as well, will want to stay in the wilderness while the other group, led by Natalie, wants to use Hannah and her wilderness guide, Kodiak (Joel McHale), to be rescued. This is reminiscent of the divide that formed in Lost between characters who wanted to stay on the Island and those who wanted to escape. Hannah and Kodiak may have the misfortune of being killed as the two groups fight over what should happen.
Our Take On The Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 8 Trailer
The Next Episode Will Have Top-Tier Humor & Drama
With only three episodes left this season, I am glad that Swank’s character is finally being introduced, and am eager to learn more about her. I am also glad that, despite the dark drama in both of Yellowjackets‘ timelines, the show has not lost its sense of humor. Van asking Hannah about what is happening with Mulder and Scully in The X-Files is hilarious and feels consistent with her character’s love for 1990s popular culture. Yellowjackets season 3’s drama and humor feel like they are at their best as season 3 begins to wind down.
