Judy’s Cut The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 Story Is So Much More Interesting After BJ’s Pole Dancing Twist

WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for The Righteous Gemstones season 4, episode 3.
BJ’s pole-dancing character arc in season 4 of the HBO comedy series The Righteous Gemstones was almost shared with his wife Judy Gemstone. BJ, played by Tim Baltz, has worked endlessly to become a true part of the Gemstone family since season 1. After he and Judy, played by Edi Patterson, have some marital troubles throughout season 3, BJ earns a handshake from Eli Gemstone, which seals the deal on his acceptance as an honorary member of the Gemstone family tree.
The Righteous Gemstones season 4 has new surprises in store for BJ, who has taken up pole dancing, of all things. After he proved to be pretty smooth on rollerblades in season 2, BJ has apparently found a new calling (to match his new facial hair) in the fourth and final season. Pole-dancing was initially intended to be a newfound shared passion between BJ and Judy, potentially as a way to solidify their “holy” union after Judy’s season 3 affair. Judy, however, will not be pole-dancing due to an injury suffered by Patterson while filming.
The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 Cut A Judy Pole Dancing Story After Edi Patterson Got Injured
Judy & BJ Would Have Likely Had Some Hilarious Pole Dancing Scenes Together
According to Deadline, the original script for The Righteous Gemstones season 4 called for Judy to pole dance alongside BJ. This storyline was removed from the season entirely after Patterson hurt her shoulder during rehearsals. “By the third lesson, I showed [Tanya, the choreographer] what I could do — wasn’t a lot, guys. She goes, Okay, I’m going to choreograph some more sort of typically stripper stuff that you can do on the ground. And I was like, great.” Patterson unfortunately doesn’t reveal what the removed storyline would have been.

The fourth and final season of HBO’s comedy series The Righteous Gemstones has been full of surprises, including a reunion between two major actors.
As shown in The Righteous Gemstones season 4, episode 2, pole dancing becomes BJ’s hobby, which sparks jealousy in Judy since he is the only male in the class. Even though BJ is taking pole dancing seriously, Judy’s insecurity is obvious, which could have been what enticed her to start pole dancing with BJ in the removed season 4 storyline. Because of Patterson’s injury, however, the season headed in a new direction with BJ as the solitary pole dancer before his episode 3 fall.
BJ’s Pole Dancing Injury Makes Judy’s Cut Story A Bigger Mystery
She May Have Originally Encouraged BJ & Taken Lessons With Him In Episode 2
Since BJ injured himself during a performance at the beginning of The Righteous Gemstones season 4, episode 3, it appears that there will be no more pole dancing for him. It’s unclear whether BJ’s injury was written in as a result of Patterson’s real-life injury or if that was part of the original plan. Judy has only been a spectator for BJ’s dancing thus far, so perhaps BJ’s injury in episode 3 was meant to set up Judy taking his pole-dancing spotlight.
Had Patterson not been injured, she would likely have been a part of BJ’s pole-dancing lessons in episode 2.
Had Patterson not been injured, she would likely have been a part of BJ’s pole-dancing lessons in episode 2. As for poor BJ, he looks to be in a wheelchair for the time being, meaning his pole-dancing dreams in The Righteous Gemstones season 4 may be over.
