News, Release Date, Cast, Trailer & Everything We Know

TLC is set to release a new reality show titled PolyFamily this April, providing an intimate look into the unique life of a closed polyamorous quad, and here is everything there is to know about this upcoming unscripted series. The series will follow two married couples who appear to have figured out their relationship dynamics. This isn’t the first show with a non-traditional type of family structure. Sister Wives, currently in its nineteenth season, has documented Kody Brown’s polygamous journey with his ex-wives—Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, Christine Brown, and his current and remaining wife, Robyn Brown.

However, that didn’t age well, with Kody now in a monogamous marriage with his favorite wife, Robyn. The family now needs to redefine their relationship and see how to be a family. The PolyFamily has been living together and growing up as a family. However, as the trailer shows, they’ll face plenty of challenges along the way. Read on for everything we know about PolyFamily season 1.

Its Premiere Is Almost Here

The network hardly shies away from covering polyamory and polygamous families. Even 90 Day Fiancé season 11 features a polygamous couple, an indication there’s a growing interest in non-traditional relationships. By all records, PolyFamily will be one of the most exciting shows on TV, blending the elements of Sister Wives, Seeking Sister Wife, and Seeking Brother Husband.

The unique reality show will dive into the lives of this polyamorous family, giving an audience a deeper look into the couple’s dynamics. It will also focus on their challenges and different experiences as the show works towards breaking away from stereotypes. Based on how Sister Wives turned out, PolyFamily is likely to be a chaotic ride—but one packed with drama.

PolyFamily season 1 will premiere on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET on TLC. Following the show’s broadcast, PolyFamily will be available to stream on TLC’s official website and other streaming platforms they’ve partnered with. It will be interesting to see a reality show similar to Sister Wives after it has been on TV for 15 years, taking the audience through the Brown family’s highs and lows. Perhaps Kody might learn a few things about managing more than one wife and keeping peace and harmony within his household, although this might be a little too late.

PolyFamily Season 1 Cast

There Will Be Two Main Couples

PolyFamily season 1 will have two married couples—Alysia Rodgers, Tyler Rodgers, and Sean Hartless and Taya Hartless. They live together, and their relationship is considered a closed quad. Their relationship is so non-traditional that Alysia and Sean are dating, whereas Tyler and Taya are also romantically involved. Before joining the quad, Alysia and Tyler had been together for 11 years, while Sean and Taya had been together for six.

Between them, they have four kids. Alysia and Tyler entered the relationship with two children and Alysia had her third child after joining the quad. Taya’s first child was born after the quad was formed, and she is currently expecting her second child. To prevent jealousy within the relationship, this PolyFamily group has chosen not to disclose the paternity of the children born within the quad.

PolyFamily Season 1 Trailer

It Promises Plenty Of Drama

PolyFamily season 1 trailer dropped on March 17, showing the possible twists in the quad dynamics. It will focus on personal journeys, relationship updates, and societal reactions, especially how their friends and family react to their relationship. Sean explained in the trailer how their relationship works, adding that they only dated within themselves (via TLC).

“We are a closed polyamorous quad. A closed quad is four people. We’re only dating within ourselves and married within ourselves. We don’t have any outside partners.”

Alysia also added that they’d realized they could love more than one person:

“We never set out to live our lives like this, but we realized we could love more than one person and make our own rules as to what we want our family to look like.”

Later in the trailer, Taya reveals that the men “switch rooms every night,” and they all have no clue who the father of the young boys is. However, life in the PolyFamily seems complicated, with tension rising between Sean and Tyler, proving their parenting skills are different. Additionally, Taya threatens to break the quad’s dynamics when she confesses to having feelings for someone else, leaving Alysia in tears and unsure about the future of their relationship.

While polyamory and polygamous relationships have their differences, with Kody’s polygamous family beliefs rooted in the fundamentalist Mormon Church with him as the head of the family, polyamorous relationships are built on informed consent. Therefore, even though Sister Wives season 20 is currently filming, there’s a possibility that PolyFamily might end up replacing the once-popular show. In the meantime, all eyes are on the April 29 premiere to see if the unscripted series will live up to the hype since the teaser promises fresh perspectives, new faces, and lots of drama.

PolyFamily season 1 premieres on April 29 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
